In 2004 the PGA honored the legacy of R. Jay Sigel, the top amateur golfer ever born and raised in Pennsylvania. Sigelís amateur credentials are remarkable. He was a two-time U.S. Amateur Champion, a three-time U.S. Middle-Amateur Champion and a representative of the U.S. on the Walker Cup team nine times, including twice as captain in 1983 and 1985. He was an 11-time Pennsylvania Amateur Champion, a four-time Pennsylvania State Open Champion and a two-time Pennsylvania Junior Champion.
"The Sigel" will host 72 of the best players that the Commonwealth has to offer. The event will begin with two 18-hole stroke play rounds with the top 16 players advancing to match play.

"The Sigel" is open to any male amateur golfer who is a member of a club belonging to the Pennsylvania Golf Association or an individual member of the Pennsylvania Golf Association with a handicap index of 7.4 or lower. If the positions are not filled by players whom have accumulated points in the year prior, then the entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Anyone who registers, but does not gain entry, will be given a full refund.

The field will consist of the top 71 players on the previous yearís William C. Fownes, Jr., Amateur Player of the Year standings, and the current club champion of the host site.
Players who have been accepted as participants in Pennsylvania Golf Association championships will receive event information concerning course assignment, practice rounds, pairings, and starting times approximately 10 days prior to the event. If you have not received your information seven days prior to the event, it is your responsibility to contact the Pennsylvania Golf Association. Information can also be found at

Starting Times will be laid by the Committee.
 Caddie & Cart
Carts are MANDATORY at the request of the host club. Cart fee of $35 for day one will be collected during time of entry. Match play qualifiers will be responsible for paying cart fees individually on days two and three.

Prizes will be awarded to the Medalist, and players who reach the Quarterfinals and beyond.

Prizes will also be awarded to the team (team members must be from the same club) that posts the best 2 scores of 3 for the stroke play portion of the event.
In the event of a tie for the final qualifying position for match play, there will be a sudden death playoff to determine the final positions.

In the event of a match standing all square after 18-holes, the stipulated round shall be deemed to extend on a hole-by-hole basis beginning on the first hole.

 Practice Round
Practice rounds will be available any time based on club availability. Please call the golf shop at 570-366-0733 up to one week in advance to schedule a tee time.
Practice round fee: $35 includes cart, cart required for practice round.
Payment methods include Visa or Mastercard.
 Practice Range
Will be open approximately one hour prior to the first starting time. Please respect the rules and limitations at the practice range.
Please be at your starting tee at least ten minutes prior to your starting time.
 Food & Beverage
Lunch is included in entry fee and will be provided for all competitors on each day of competition. Additional F&B purchases will be available in the clubhouse and halfway house.
There are several hotels available in different price ranges in the Reading and Allentown areas. The Association recommends the Allentown West area which is about 25-30 minutes from the club, or the Wyndham Microtel in Hamburg.
