Stimmel and Young Win Four-Ball at Hannastown

Scorecards

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Rick Stimmel and Brett Young posted back-to-back sizzling 66s at Hannastown Golf Club to win the 32nd Pennsylvania Four-Ball Championship, presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.

The duo had four birdies and no bogeys in both Monday and Tuesday’s rounds at Hannastown. They needed all of those red numbers to finish at 8-under par and hold off a strong field.

“It’s great to win,” said Stimmel, of Diamond Run Golf Club. “It’s one that I haven’t won before and I couldn’t have picked a better partner.”

The pair entered round two tied with a team of Hannastown hopefuls, Kevin and Brian Fajt. Young cited a little more familiarity with the course as a key to the win.

“I think we kind of got used to the speeds of the greens,” said Young, a member of Nemacolin Country Club. “Today, they were a little quicker.”

Two of the four birdies the pair posted in Tuesday’s final round came on long par 3s, thanks to Stimmel. First, it was the 210-yard seventh hole and then on No. 11 (220 yards).

“Rick hit a pair of 4-irons up there to four feet and made them both,” said Young. “He played unbelievable.”

Stimmel and Young led a group of seven teams that finished under par. Finishing just a stroke behind them in second place was the Oakmont Country Club duo of Nathan Piatt and Aidan Oehrle, who posted 67-66 for a two-round score of 7-under par 133.

In third place was the Hannastown headlining pair, Sean Knapp and Mark Goetz, with matching scores of 67 to finish at 6-under. Fajt and Fajt, first round co-leaders, tied for fourth with Jimmy Eliis and Darin Kowalski of South Hills Country Club, at 5-under par. But none of the teams could catch up to Young and Stimmel, each winning their first PAGA Four-Ball title.

“We made some timely birdies when we needed to,” said Young.

The Pennsylvania Golf Association would like to thank the staff and membership of Hannastown Golf Club for the hospitality shown during the championship. Thanks as well to DICK’S Sporting Goods for the sponsorship of the event.
