Past tournament successes are scattered throughout the fields for the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 15th Father/Son and 6th Parent/Child Championships. The combined event is set for Heidelberg Country Club, July 15-16, 2024 For starters, defending champions return in both divisions. Llanerch Country Club’s Grayson and James Wingerter will attempt to win their second consecutive Father/Son title and the duo is seeking their third title after winning the crown in 2021. In the Parent/Child competition, Craig and Ella McRoberts (Valley Brook Country Club) are also out to get their second-straight title after winning the 2023 trophy in that division. Both teams will face stiff competition from several teams. The McRoberts will try to fend off among others the 2022 titlists and last year’s runner-up team of Daniel and McKylie Boreman (Carlisle Country Club) as well as the pairing of Robert Cooper and daughter Allison Wix (Colonial Country Club), who won the event’s inaugural crown in 2019. Another formidable test could come from the team of Brandon and Makensy Knaub (Country Club of York). Brandon is a former Pennsylvania Amateur champion, winning the title in 2003, while Makensy finished 12th in PAGA’s 2023 Women’s Amateur championship. The Wingerter’s challenges could also come from different directions. Three-time Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) and 2019 PAGA player of the year, Michael R. Brown, Jr. and his father Michael, Sr. (LuLu Country Club) are in the field. And, two-time runner-up in the Art Wall Memorial Championship, Clay Davidson and son, Brady, (West Shore Country Club) will provide a challenge. Brady was a medalist in PAGA’s R. Jay Sigel Match Play event in 2023. The event is scheduled for 36 holes over the two days and is sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods. |
