Final 15 qualifiers for 108th Open Championship determined
BLUE BELL, Pa. – Qualifying for the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 108th Open Championship concluded with a final qualifier on Monday at Blue Bell Country Club, with 15 competitors securing a spot in the upcoming tournament, scheduled for Aug. 12-14 at St. Clair Country Club. A pair of golfers tied for the top spot on the leaderboard, with Rocco Sgrillo (John F. Byrne GC) and Evan Thornton (Berkshire CC) both finishing the day three-under-par with scores of 68. Sgrillo recovered from a double bogey on hole No. 3 to finish the round with eight birdies, while Thornton played a mistake-free golf on the front nine (including four straight birdies on holes 4, 5, 6, and 7) and added another pair of birdies on the back nine. Just behind Sgrillo and Thornton was another duo, Chris Waldmann (The 1912 Club) and James Gradisek (Stonewall), both at 69 (-2). Two players from the Philadelphia Cricket Club—Danny Lewis and Nick Parga—tied for fifth place and were the only others to shoot under-par on the day with a 70 (-1).
