President’s Letter
Dr. James J. Mahoney

February 25, 2015

Dr. James J. Mahoney, of Lake View Country Club in North East, Pa., was elected President of the Pennsylvania Golf Association at its fall meeting. He has tirelessly served on the Pennsylvania Golf Association Executive Committee since 2004. Mahoney attended Mercyhurst University where he was a member of both the golf and basketball teams. Following graduation, he enrolled at Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill., earning a dental degree in 1979. He is President of the O’Leary Dental Group in Girard, Pa., where he has practiced dentistry for the last 34 years.

Dr. Mahoney has this message for supporters of the Association.

Dear Fellow Golfers,

This past week, Erie County established several records for the daily low temperature, reaching as low as -28 degrees. Today, another six inches of snow fell, bringing the city’s yearly total over the 100-inch mark. Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to the start of this year’s golfing season.

It’s an honor to serve as President of the Pennsylvania Golf Association. With the support of the Allegheny Health Network, our mission is to continue to provide quality events for golfers to compete. We are both fortunate and grateful to have a multitude of outstanding golf courses that make themselves available for our championships. The 99th Pennsylvania Open will be contested at Rolling Green Golf Club, and the 102nd Amateur returns to the Country Club of Scranton. Fox Chapel Golf Club opens its doors to host the prestigious 12th R. Jay Sigel Match Play, and the critically acclaimed Huntsville Golf Club welcomes the 22nd Middle-Amateur.

Additionally, the recently renovated Longue Vue Club will host the 56th Senior Amateur, and White Manor Country Club will host the 6th edition of the Father-Son. We also get to make return visits to Colonial Golf & Tennis Club for the 75th Dressler Public Links, Indiana Country Club for the 26th Four-Ball, Country Club of York for the 23rd Senior Four-Ball and Hershey Country Club for the Junior Boys’ and Girls’. A couple newcomers this year include Scotch Valley Country Club for the 9th Senior Match Play and a trip to Schuylkill Country Club for the 11th Art Wall, Jr. Memorial.

To those of you who have participated in past events, we thank you for your continued support. If you are considering entering for the first time, I encourage you to please do so. I am certain you will find the experience very rewarding. See you on the links!

Very truly yours,

Jim Mahoney
President
