Pennsylvania Senior Better-Ball Championship

Schlachter and Kunsman Win Senior Better-Ball Championship At Huntsville

The final round of the Pennsylvania Senior Better-Ball concluded Tuesday after a tumultuous two days, which included the completion of the 1st round early Tuesday morning. The first round leaders, Bill Kunsman and Paul Schlachter of The Club of Nevillewood, continued their excellent play carding a six under par 66, leading to a 15 under-par winning score of 129. This was Schlatcher third state tile, he is the current Pennsylvania Senior Amateur Champion, 1998 Pennsylvania Amateur Champion and was a semifinalist in the 2005 R. Jay Sigel Pennsylvania Amateur Match Play Championship. Finishing in a tie for second place at nine under par total of 135 were the Lykens and Drennen team and the Colonial Country Club team of Fleig and Smee.

In the Super-Senior Division, the Sherratt and Davidson team found themselves victorious this afternoon, carding eight birdies and no bogies on their way to a final round eight under-par 64. Finishing in second place was the Tyler and Whitman team who shot a second round two under par 70 for a 142 total score. The first round leaders, Warren and Deakins, unfortunately were unable to match the scorching pace and ended up playing in the other direction, carding a three over-par 75 leaving them in third place.

The first round of the Pennsylvania Senior Better-Ball concluded Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. after two weather suspensions on Monday. The field was cut to the low 36 teams and ties for the second round. The first round leaders, Bill Kunsman and Paul Schlachter of The Club at Nevillewood, fired a nine under-par 63 to take a two shot lead over locals, Bill Lawler of Fox Hill CC and Ron Pieczynski of Irem Temple CC. The Team of Kunsman and Schlachter carded nine birdies and zero bogies in the first round. Paul Schlachter is the current Pennsylvania Senior Amateur Champion and was a semifinalist in the 2005 R. Jay Sigel Pennsylvania Amateur Match Play Championship.

The First Round Leaders in the Super-Senior Division was the Philadelphia Country Club team of Warren Deakins, 2003 Pennsylvania Super-Senior Amateur Champion and Richard Smith, 2004 Pennsylvania Super-Senior Amateur Champion. Deakins and Smith Carded seven birdies and four bogies for a three under-par 69 and a one shot lead over Bill Davidson of Carlisle CC and Jim Sherratt of Old York Road CC.
