Polizzi Claims Dressler Super-Senior Title

CARLISLE, Pa. - Trailing first round leader Thomas Fleig by four shots, Frank Polizzi knew he needed a strong start in the second and final round of the 76th George Dressler Memorial Championship, presented by Allegheny Health Network, today at Carlisle Country Club. And when his second shot of the day found the bottom of the cup from 135 yards out for an eagle, the momentum was on his side. Polizzi forced a playoff with Fleig and made par on the first playoff hole to win the championship with a two-round total of 155 (+13).

"I feel very proud to have won this championship today against a field of such great players," Polizzi said. "This was a really difficult golf course, and it's great to win here."

Tom Fleig, Colonial Golf & Tennis Club, took Runner-Up honors

Fleig, of Colonial Golf & Tennis Club, struggled on his opening nine, with only a birdie on No. 6 in the midst of six bogeys from holes 2-8. After an up and down back nine, he headed to the 18th hole needing a birdie to force a playoff with Polizzi. Despite his earlier struggles, Fleig was able to convert and make birdie on 18 for the second day in a row. The duo went back to No. 18 for the playoff hole. Fleig hit his third shot on the par-5 over the green. He then chipped up past the hole and missed his par putt. Polizzi, meanwhile, hit his approach to about three feet. He missed that chance but converted the next putt for his par and to win the championship.

"It was nice in the morning today, but right at the turn, the clouds left, the sun came out and the wind was ferocious, and that made the back nine really tough," said Polizzi, of Whitemarsh Valley Country Club.

Finishing three shots off the pace was Lee Lykens of Indiana Country Club. Hannastown Golf Club's Mike McGuire was in fourth place at 160 (+18). Just a shot behind McGuire was the only other player to break 80 in round two, Thomas Mallouk of Lookaway Golf Club, who shot a 79 to finish at 161.
