Keim and Ciacchini take Better-Ball Championship

The ninth annual Better-Ball Championship began this year's season with a trip to State College, and Toftrees Golf Resort. Since its inauguration in 1991 at Hillcrest Country Club, the Better-Ball Championship has seen the team of Joe Cordaro and Bruce Stephen, Nevillewood, in the winners circle three times. However, with this dynamic duo absent, along with the defending champions Andy Achenbach, LuLu, and Lee McEntee, Doylestown, we stood ready to crown a new champion.

A heavy overnight thunderstorm drenched the 7034 yard layout of Toftrees Golf Resort, forcing players to display their long iron skills. With a sizable lead and a second round even par 72, Jim Keim and David Ciacchini, Kawkwa won the 1998 Better-Ball Championship with a five under-par 139. A team of Davids, Higinbotham and DeNezza from Hannastown, recorded two rounds under par to finish in second place at three under-par 141.
