Senior Amateur Championship

Seventy-three golfers aged 55 and over completed the second of two rounds of the Senior Amateur Championship July 24, 2001, at the 6,164 yard Fox Hill Country Club. Increasing heat and strong winds pushed scores higher than they had been on day one.
Fox Hill Club Champion and golf committee chairman Ed Hennigan used a wealth of home course knowledge to fire a final round even-par 71 to claim this year's championship. His two day total, four-over par, 145, placed him three shots ahead of first round co-leader Stephen Daley from Lu Lu CC. Hennigan's round started slow, two over-par on the first nine holes, but "the Edge," as he is known around Fox Hill, was a different man down the stretch. He birdied fifteen and sixteen and finished with solid pars on the final two holes. This was Hennigan's first Pennsylvania Golf Association title.
Defending champion Jim Wetzel of the Clubs of Regent's Glen finished in a group of four golfers four shots behind at 150. Joining him were Herbert Gordon from Doylestown CC, former champion Phil Saylor of Sunnehanna CC, and Michael Kanoff of Colonial CC.
