Reedman finishes at 1-under par;
leads Amateur Championship by a stroke
BETHLEHEM, Pa.–Christopher Reedman’s priorities dramatically changed 2½ years ago as a St. Joseph’s University junior with the birth of his daughter Ava. Golf quickly turned from a life necessity into a luxury item."My responsibilities have taken a different route," said Reedman, now 24, of Holland, Pa. "I’m getting married in May and golf has taken a back seat. I’ve always saw myself kind of being toward the top [in terms of amateur golf] but then we had Ava. She’s been a blessing. This would be kind of a little comeback [golfwise] you could say."

The long-hitting righty stands at 1-under par 141 for the 36 holes of the 95th State Amateur Championship at Saucon Valley CC’s Old Course (par 71, 6,990 yards) and he heads into the third and final day with a one-stroke lead. Reedman is the lone player in red figures.
"It’s nice to compete in a big event like this with the best amateurs in Pennsylvania," said Reedman, who finished with a 1-under 70 on Tuesday. "The real test is tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be fun."
Tee times for the third and final round have been moved up from 7:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. with inclement weather possible later in the day. The leaders begin their last 18 holes at 9:20 a.m. The final group consists of Reedman of Makefield Highlands GC, Nathan Smith of Pinecrest CC and Wildwood GC and Conrad Von Borsig of Concord CC. Smith, Von Borsig, Brian Belden, Jr., a PGA Individual Member and Brandon Detweiler of Lancaster CC, are all a shot back.
Reedman’s round didn’t start out as strong as it finished, though. He bogeyed No. 2 (par 4, 469 yards) when his drive stopped in a funky lie in the left rough before rallying for consecutive birdies on Nos. 4 (par 3, 155 yards) and 5 (par 4, 476 yards). On the fourth hole he hit an 8-iron to 30 feet and made the uphill putt for two before knocking a 6-iron from 185 yards to eight feet on the fifth for another birdie. He would make the turn in 35.

A bogey on No. 11 (par 3, 183 yards) courtesy of a pushed 6-iron conjured up some bad memories but a three on No. 15 (par 4, 340 yards) with a sand wedge to six feet got his score back to even. Three pars to finish the round put Reedman on top of the leaderboard.
"It would be cool," said Reedman of winning. "I would love to win it for my dad."
Reedman has some company near the top, however. Seventeen players are within five of the lead including the aforementioned Smith, who won the 2002 Amateur and has finished second twice including last year at the Longue Vue Club.
"Everybody’s kind of bunched up so everyone really has a shot," said Smith, 30, of Pittsburgh, Pa. "We’ll see how the course plays tomorrow."
NOTES–A total of 44 players made the cut. The top 40 players and ties advanced into Wednesday’s third round. The field started with 127 players … the aforementioned Hofmann stands at 147 after an even-par 71 on Day Two. He is seven strokes back of the leader … Michael Van Sickle of Treesdale G&CC turned in the day’s low round with a 2-under 69.
