Gunerman's 68 Tops in First Round

A windy day at the Links

One father and son group rose above the elements at Hersey Links Golf Club to lead after the first day of play at the 3rd Annual Father & Son Championship. Joseph and Todd Gunerman, of Jerhico Nationall Golf Club combined to shoot a 4-under par, 68.

The Father & Son Championship is a Chapman format. Clarification of format: both players hit their drives on the tee, for the second shot player A hits player B’s ball and player B hits player A’s ball, for the third shot the players select which ball they would like to play and play alternately until the ball is holed.

The Championship Bracket, which contains 49 teams, is rounded out by three strong pairs. Tied for second were Jas & JB Bradbeer and Aaron & Pete Widdoes. The Bradbeers & Widdoes each ended their frist round with a 69, 3-under par. Rounding out the top 4 are Jonathan and William Heydt, who shot 70, 2-under par.

The Gunerman & Bradbeer duo's will tee off tomorrow at 1:10 pm at the Hershey Country Club East course, following the Heydt and Widdoes duo's at 1:00 pm.

In the Senior Division only one father & son combination were able to pull away from their competitors. Peter & Chris Gebhard surged late and carded a 3-under, 69. Following them closely were three groups tied at even par, 72. Jay & Warren Deakins, Harvey & Dan Chernosky, and Rob & Rober Marek were all able to withstand the swirling winds to get into the top four, going into Wednesday. The Gebhard group will tee off at 9:10 am with the Deakins group, following the Chernosky and Marek groups.
