Dallas, PA – The 2012 Dressler Champion, Sean Knapp, of Pittsburgh National Golf Club, turned in a dominating two round performance in the 9th Annual R. Jay Sigel Amateur Match Play Championship, 36-hole Stroke Play Qualifying rounds. Knapp described the championship as an event that could become one of the best Championships in the Commonwealth. He would follow this up by sinking twelve birdies and one eagle to turn in a nine-under-par, 135 in the first thirty-six holes, to be a favorite going into match play.
Brady Goodling turned in an impressive 5-under-par, 139, in his coming out party of the 2012 Championship season. Goodling, of Lebanon Country Club, came into the event unproven but ready to make his mark on 2012 Championship season. His opening eighteen holes, he carded seven birdies and one eagle that would help to save a round of four bogeys and carry him through a second round of even-par, into the second day of competition.
Three-time champion Arnie Cutrell ended the first round with a score of 142, solidifying the 5th seed. Cutrell, of Greensburg Country Club, would hole four birdies on the back nine of his first round to save a disappointing 1-over-par, front nine. He would turn in a competitive second round eighteen in the windy, rainy weather, to end his day.
Match play will begin Tuesday morning with Knapp facing off against Sean Fahey, of Overbrook Golf Club, at 7:30am. Cutrell will tee off against Brian Corbett, of Huntsville Golf Club, at 8:00am. Goodling will be competing against David Fardon, of Philadelphia Publinks Golf Association, at 8:10am. Be sure to follow us on twitter @PA_Golf for live updates.
