Raymond C. Mott
Raymond C. Mott of the Country Club of Harrisburg was named
President of the Pennsylvania Golf Association, celebrating its 100th
year as an Association, on Oct. 8th at the organization’s Annual
Meeting.
Mott, whose entire life has revolved around golf, said, "I
started playing golf at the age of 9 and was hooked from the start.”
He captained both his high school and college golf teams before
going to work at Atlantic City Country Club under owner Leo Fraser, then
President of the PGA of America. His career began as a golf professional at
Seaview Country Club in New Jersey and at Buck Hill Inn in Pennsylvania.
From there, Mott’s career in hospitality and management in both
hotels and country clubs started. He put in time at La Costa Resort in
California; McCormick Ranch Resort in Scottsdale, Az.; Ridgewood Country Club
in New Jersey and Hershey Country Club and Resort in Hershey, Pa., which
brought him back to the Keystone State.
Mr. Mott now lives in Harrisburg with his wife Dorie, an attorney
and avid golfer. Mott likes to point out his only job not affiliated with golf
was as General Manager at The Downtown Athletic Club, home of the Heisman
Trophy, in New York City.
To celebrate the 2009 Centennial the Association will host four
regional celebrations to honor those amateurs and professionals alike who have
won or played their way through our 100 years of tournament golf.
"Along with our normal schedule of tournaments and
qualifiers this year will keep our board and volunteers extremely busy,"
Mott added.
This year’s venues are some of Pennsylvania's best with the
Better-Ball Championship at Huntington Valley Country Club, Amateur
Championship at Waynesborough Country Club, Junior Boys’ Championship at
Hershey Country Club and Resort, Senior Amateur Championship at Huntsville Golf
Association of Philadelphia Club, Middle-Amateur Championship at Sunnehanna
Country Club and Open Championship at venerable Oakmont Country Club.
Mr. Mott is supported by Vice Presidents Chuck Dannenberg of
Merion Golf Club and Pete Richter of Hershey Country Club. His
Secretary-Treasurer is John W. McMurdy, Jr. of Indiana County Club.
