Ross Named USGA Boatwright Intern
Broomall, Pa. – Bryan Ross has been named USGA P. J. Boatwright, Jr. Intern for the Pennsylvania Golf Association during the upcoming 2016 season. A native of Baldwinsville, N.Y., near Syracuse, Ross is a recent graduate of the Sport Management Program at West Virginia University. He also completed a minor in business administration and communications.
Ross’ most recent work experience came as pro shop manager at Camillus Country Club, where he handled day-to-day operations and conducted weeknight leagues and tournaments at the club. Past duties have included stints at OptiGolf in Syracuse, where he coordinated corporate events, and an internship with the Syracuse Chiefs, a minor league hockey team where he helped set up promotions and special events.
“I look forward to the opportunity to help promote the game throughout the state of Pennsylvania and gaining valuable experience working together with the staff and volunteers that play a major role within the Association,” said Ross.
In 1991, the USGA established the P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship Program. This program is designed to give experience to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration, while assisting state and regional golf associations in the promotion of amateur golf, on a short-term, entry level basis.
The common thread, which runs through the internship, is exposure to tournament preparations, tournament administration and post-tournament business. The nature of tournament administration will test one's patience, initiative and decision-making abilities, as well as one's ability to endure long hours and hard work.
The Association looks forward to welcoming Bryan, as he will begin his duties on April 18.
