What's New For 2010
We have a fantastic slate of venues for the 2010 golf season in Pennsylvania. As we start a new decade, we are taking a closer look at our events and critiquing them to enhance the championship experience. Below is a list of the main changes that we will be featuring for 2010.
NEW EVENT - We have added the Father-Son Championship to our schedule. Hershey Country Club's East Course and Hershey Links will host the inaugural event on Tuesday-Wednesday, July 20-21. The event will add to our schedule of competitive, professionally run tournaments, but will also be a great atmosphere for fathers and their sons to bond and have a nice couple of days on the golf course. AGE REQUIREMENT - The age requirement for the Championship Flight in the Art Wall, Jr. Memorial has been lowered to 40 years old. Anyone who is at least 40 years old on September 21st will be eligible. The Senior (55-64) and Super-Senior (65 & older) flights remain the same. The event will take place at Stonewall's North Course on Tuesday-Wednesday, September 21-22.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINTS - The W.C. Fownes, Jr. Amateur Player of the Year award is given to the player that accumulates the most points in a given year. The points given for each event have been adjusted for 2010 and will be reviewed annually. Click here for the new Amateur Player of the Year Points Chart. GROOVES - The Pennsylvania Golf Association is currently following the USGA's recommendations and has yet to create a formal policy. The Pennsylvania Golf Association WILL NOT be adopting the condition of competition which prohibits square grooves for 2010. Questions can be directed to the Pennsylvania Golf Association's tournament department at 610-687-2340, ext. 19.
TEAM PRIZE - We have added a Team Competition to the Amateur Championship, Senior Amateur Championship, Middle-Amateur Championship, and Art Wall, Jr. Memorial. In each of these events, your score will be combined with fellow club members to compete for a team prize. The team event will be played concurrently with the Championship. Two low scores out of three (a team may compete with only two players) for each of the first two rounds will comprise the team total for each round. The low team total score will be declared Team Champions for each event. A club may enter more than one team. Players must compete from the Championship Tees to be eligible for a team. Teams must be selected prior to the start of the Championship.
SENIOR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - The format for the Senior Team Championship will be changed to "Best 2 of 4 Gross & Net".
SCHEDULE BOOK - The Pennsylvania Golf Association will not be producing the annual schedule booklet. You are encouraged to sign up for events on our website, www.pagolf.org, or print an entry from the website and mail it in with payment.
