Lu Lu Hosts Eastern Regional Amateur Qualifier
The Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship, which will be played at Huntingdon Valley Country Club on July 25-27, held its first of four regional qualifiers today at Lu Lu Country Club in North Hills, PA. The other regional qualifiers will be held at Colonial Country Club in Harrisburg, PA (June 21), Totteridge Golf Club (June 22) in Greensburg, PA, and at the Country Club of Scranton in Clarks Summit, PA (June 27). Contestants from each qualifier will compete for 81 total spots in July's Amateur Championship field at Huntingdon Valley. Overall, 132 players will compete at Huntingdon Valley for the State Amateur title.
Today at Lu Lu Country Club, 156 players competed for 36 spots and 5 alternate spots. Lu Lu, as it is affectionately known, is located just north of Philadelphia, PA. A Donald Ross original design, the course is charming and possesses a unique layout that makes playing a delight. Today, the course played to a par-71 extending a total of 6,387 yards for the competitors.
Some were able to take advantage of the terrific playing conditions; the lowest score of the day was carded by Paul Gagliardi of Cedarbrook Country Club with a scorching 5-under par 66. Shooting 2-under par 69's were David West from Whitford Country Club, Patrick Marshalek, also from Whitford Country Club, Michael Gross from Glenmaura National Golf Club, Maximillian Muller from Manufacturers Golf and Country Club, and Marlin Detweiler from Lancaster Country Club.
After all 156 players finished their rounds, 13 competitors participated in a playoff starting on the 18th hole for 8 spots.
