Vassil and Erickson Survive Carlisle to Tie for Dressler Senior Title

Don Erickson (pictured above) tied with Michael Vassil for top honors in the Senior Division

CARLISLE, Pa. - On a very windy day at Carlisle Country Club, Michael Vassil and Don Erickson battled through the tough conditions to each shoot a 36-hole total of 153 to tie for the senior division title at the 76th George Dressler Memorial Championship, presented by the Allegheny Health Network.

The pair finished one stroke ahead of Thomas Soares and Jim Mastromatteo. Vassil sandwiched six pars around a trio of birdies on the front nine before making his lone birdie of the day on the par 4 10th hole. A key for him in the tournament was the ability to avoid big numbers, as the Country Club of Scranton member carded 19 pars but nothing worse than bogey over the two days.

For Indiana Country Club's Erickson, he cruised through the first six holes with six pars. But bogeys on five of the next six holes threatened his chance at the victory. However, he steadied himself to par the final six holes to card 76 on the day and 153 for the event.

There is no playoff for first place in the Senior Division since Seniors are also competing for the overall title.
