2024 Amateur Qualifying Concludes
47 additional golfers qualify for 111th Amateur Championship
Qualifying for the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s 111th Amateur Championship continued on Monday, July 1 with three qualifying rounds at three different locations – LuLu Country Club, Connoquenessing Country Club, and Coatesville Country Club. A complete list of today’s qualifiers can be found at the end of this article. The 111th Amateur Championship takes place from July 29-31 at Huntingdon Valley Country Club.
LuLu Country Club – East Qualifier
Erik Reisner (Squires GC) held on for a one stroke victory at LuLu Country Club’s East Qualifier, logging a solid back nine that included two birdies and three pars on the last five holes to finish with a two-under 69. Only two other golfers were under par on the day, as Richard Riva (LuLu CC) and Brendan Borst (Philadelphia CC) both finished the day with scores of 70 (-1). Riva birdied six holes but began his back nine with a double bogey on hole No. 10 and a bogey on No. 11 while Borst eagled twice—on holes No. 1 and 9, in addition to birdies on 2 and 13, but bogeyed 15, 16, and 18.
Other notables in the top five included Thomas Weir (Philadelphia Publinks) and Gregor Orlando (Philadelphia CC), who both shot an even-par 71.
Coatesville Country Club – East 2 Qualifier
Nine golfers earned qualification at the second East Qualifier at Coatesville CC. Jake Maddaloni (Aronimink GC) and Matthew Krass (Radley Run CC) tied for first place after both shooting 72 (+1). Maddaloni trailed Krass by a stroke but birdied 18 to earn a share of the top spot. Three other golfers were tied for third place with a score of 73 (+2): Thomas Larkin (Philadelphia Publinks GA), Win Thomas (GAP), and Christopher Bell (Radnor Valley CC).
Connoquenessing Country Club – West Qualifier
The qualifier at Connoquenessing CC sent 11 golfers on to the 111th Amateur, led by Austin Lemieux (The Club at Nevillewood), who carded a seven-under-par 64 to finish three strokes clear of the rest of the field. Lemieux’s excellent round included an eagle on the par-five second hole, a birdie on hole No. 6. and five consecutive birdies to begin the back nine.
Behind Lemieux were a pair of golfers tied for second place with scores of 67 (-4): Carter Pitcairn (Oakmont CC) and Scott Jordan (PAGA Individual Member). Timothy Peters (Toftrees Golf Resort) finished in fourth place with a 69 (-2), while Nathan Bazant (Nemacolin CC) and Jon Pratkanis (Butler CC) rounded out the top five with scores of 70 (-1).
