French Lick, IN - The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will be represented at the 2014 USGA Men’s State Team Championship by stalwarts Arnie Cutrell, Greensburg; Sean Knapp, Oakmont; and Nathan Smith, Pittsburgh.  Both Knapp and Smith were on the victorious team that claimed top honors in the 2009 edition of the championship at the Country Club of St. Albans in St. Louis, Mo., along with now professional Mike Van Sickle, of Wexford.

The Pete Dye Course at the French Lick (Ind.) Resort opened in 1999 and just a year later hosted its first major event, the PGA Professional National Championship. For the 2014 Men's State Team Championship, the Dye Course will measure 6,891 yards and play to a par of 72.  Eighteen holes of stroke play are scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 2 (Tuesday-Thursday) with two of the lowest three individual scores counting as the team’s score for the round. The team with the lowest aggregate score through 54 holes is the champion.

Cutrell is the current leader in the W. C. Fownes Amateur Player of the Year point standings.  To mention a few highlights, he has benefitted from a runner-up showing in the 101st Amateur Championship at Oakmont Country Club, a quarterfinal run in The Sigel Match Play Championship at Sunnehanna Country Club, and a recent win at the Art Wall, Jr. Memorial Championship held at Rolling Green Golf Club. Cutrell is also a 3-time champion of The Sigel Match Play Championship.

Knapp, the 1997 PA Amateur champion and 5-time PA Mid-Amateur champion, has played in over 40 USGA championships.  Among his many state and regional accolades, he won both the Mid-Am and Art Wall to close out the 2013 season to solidify his spot among the top three in the W.C. Fownes Amateur Player of the Year point standings.

Smith, who needs no introduction when it comes to both State and National championships, looks to add to his resume at French Lick.  Smith is a record-holding 4-time USGA Mid-Am champion and has competed in four Masters Tournaments.  He made an impressive quarterfinal run in the 2014 USGA Amateur Championship, his best ever finish in that championship.
